“The Holy Ghost,” LDS Singing Time Ideas
“The Holy Ghost”is one of those Primary songs that wraps around your heart from the first gentle note. It’s tender, simple, and full of eternal truth—making it the perfect choice for a spirit-filled Singing Time.

But just because the song is reverent doesn’t mean your lesson can’t be engaging and fun! In fact, thoughtful interaction can help children feel the Spirit even more deeply.
Here are some of my favorite ideas to bring “The Holy Ghost,” Children’s Songbook, 105 to life during Singing Time:
Fun and Engaging Singing Time Ideas for “The Holy Ghost”
1. Whisper & Echo
- Start by whispering each line of the song and have the children echo it in a soft whisper.
- This reinforces the message that the Holy Ghost speaks in a still, small voice.
- At the end, talk about how we feel when things are quiet and peaceful.
2. Feeling Finder
- Prepare small emotion cards with faces (peaceful, scared, happy, confused, etc.).
- As you sing the song, ask children to hold up the card that matches how the song makes them feel.
- Discuss how the Holy Ghost helps us feel peace and truth.
3. Soft and Strong
- Sing the song together in a soft voice to reflect reverence.
- Then try a “strong” voice (not shouting—just confident) to feel the contrast.
- Invite discussion: “Which one feels more like the Holy Ghost?” This helps them internalize the tone of the Spirit.
4. Simple Actions
- Add gentle hand actions:
- “The still small voice” – tap fingers together
- “Whispers” – cup hands to ear
- “When I’m still” – press hands to heart
- These actions are subtle and respectful but help with memory and engagement.
5. Wind and Whisper Object Lesson
- Bring a fan and a feather or tissue.
- Talk about how we can’t see the wind, but we can feel it—just like the Holy Ghost.
- Let kids take turns feeling the fan and then listen to the song while holding the feather.
- Connect it back to how the Holy Ghost can be felt, even when not seen.
6. Fill the Jar
- Bring a clear jar and labeled ping pong balls or cotton balls with words from the song (peace, truth, right, choose, feel, etc.).
- Each time they sing a phrase well, drop a ball in.
- At the end, share how the Holy Ghost can help “fill us up” with good feelings.
7. Color the Spirit
- Hand out simple coloring sheets with clouds, hearts, or quiet symbols.
- As you sing, they quietly color while listening, then talk about how the Holy Ghost makes them feel inside.
You don’t need flashy gimmicks to make this lesson meaningful—just gentle prompts, quiet creativity, and a moment or two to testify of how the Holy Ghost helps us every single day.
Whether your Primary is large and lively or small and wiggly, these ideas will help your little ones connect with the Spirit in a powerful way they’ll remember.
Which activity do you think your Primary will love most? Let me know in the comments!
