Amp up your homemade pizza dough by making it Sourdough Pizza! This sourdough pizza crust recipe from scratch is seriously so easy and delicious- two things I always look for when making something new. My family loves the rich and tangy flavor and it is a favorite for our pizza night.

This particular crust is made with sourdough starter discard, but you can use fed sourdough if you’d rather!

Sourdough Pizza Dough

Several months ago, I started making sourdough bread on a regular basis, and I haven’t looked back.

I feel SO much better when I eat this kind of bread (using a sourdough starter), and it just tastes so delicious.

I have loved coming up with new recipes, and this sourdough pizza crust is our favorite. We have tested it many times, and I think we finally have the perfect recipe for it.

It’s so yummy and easy to make, and we all love it. I am just thrilled I can eat pizza again without getting sick!

If you are curious about sourdough or wild yeast starters, this post will be a good place to start – Sourdough Starter for Beginners.

What is Sourdough Pizza Dough?

Sourdough pizza dough is one more way to make pizza crust from scratch. You use sourdough starter discard and add it with other simple, classic pizza dough ingredients such as flour, yeast and sugar.

How long does sourdough pizza dough last in the fridge?

You can plan to store your dough in the fridge in a covered container with enough room to allow dough to rise at least 8 hours, and up to 4 days.

Does Sourdough Pizza taste good?

Sourdough pizza is delicious! The crust has a great texture with a slight spring to it. I love how the crust doesn’t turn out too hard- it’s the perfect texture. The flavor of Sourdough Pizza Crust won’t leave a “yeasty” aftertaste like most typical homemade pizza dough recipes.

How to make Sourdough Pizza Dough

Here is what you’ll need:

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup starter discard
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 teaspoon instant yeast
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

Tools:

  • For best results use a pizza stone. If you don’t have one, you can use a pan. You will need to cook it for several minutes less.

Instructions:

  1. Combine all the ingredients above in a stand mixer (or mix together by hand).
  2. Knead with a dough hook or by hand until dough is smooth and elastic.
  3. Place in an oiled bowl, cover and let rise until doubled (about four hours).
  4. After rising, divide into two equal balls
  5. Preheat oven to 375
  6. Lightly oil a pizza stone and sprinkle with cornmeal.
  7. Make pizza crust on stone.

Can I use Fed Sourdough Starter?

Yes, just feed your starter an hour or so before making your dough, omit the dry yeast, and allow rising time for about 12 hours.

Can you double the recipe?

Sure! Make sure you double all the ingredients!

How long will pizza stay good in the fridge for?

Cooked and prepared pizza should stay in the good fridge for up to 5 days. Make sure you keep in an airtight container or wrap in foil.

What toppings are good on pizza?

The possibilities are endless! You can’t go wrong with all the options. You can choose to only use cheese or add other ingredients on top.

You can even switch up the red marinara for BBQ Sauce, Alfredo Sauce, Pesto Sauce- or omit the sauce completely.
