Happy December! It’s Kathleen from Fearlessly Creative Mammas to bring you some cute tabletop trees. This project came about because I was trying to think of some fun, easy, inexpensive decorations for my kid’s apartments. My youngest two kids are both in new apartments, with very few decorations for Christmas. I wanted to help them out, but didn’t want to break the bank. I checked out my craft room and found the bigger of these trees, which I received at a bloggers conference and an idea was born.
If you don’t read my blog, you may not know that I work at JoAnn Fabric and Craft Store. Holy cow that is a dangerous place for me to work. I’m always finding things I want to buy there and I secretly wonder if I’m actually making any money at all. Don’t tell my husband though. Anyway, I headed over to JoAnn to pick up the smaller of these cones, they’re in the floral department. I also got some tulle and some buttons for my ornaments. They have the cutest buttons.
To make the tree green, wrap the green tulle around the tree, using a hot glue gun to make the tulle stick. Be careful here. The glue will come through the tulle. I can’t even tell you how many times I burned my poor fingers. It’s really a lot. I made the tulle go over the top some so I would have a place to glue my stars. The next thing I did was glue some ribbon around the tree to make garland and then I glued the buttons all over the tree. Finally, I tied some tulle around the top, to make a ribbon and glued the star buttons.
I really, really like the way these turned out. They are fun and really easy to make. After I made them I was was thinking that they would make really great Christmas trees to send to missionaries or service members because they are really light weight and you can easily pack other things around them. What do you think?
I hope you will stop over and visit me at Fearlessly Creative Mammas. I have a giveaway going on until 11:59pm on the 7th for some fun craft supplies. You can enter HERE and I hope you will. Look around and see what else you might like to try. Until next month, Merry Christmas to you!
