LDS Singing Time Ideas for “Did Jesus Really Live Again?”

Teaching Singing Time doesn’t have to complicated! Here are some simple and fun yet effective ideas for teaching “Did Jesus Really Come Again?” to your Primary kiddos!

Did Jesus Really Live Again?,” Children’s Songbook, 64 is a beautiful and reverent song that teaches children about the resurrection of Jesus Christ in a simple and powerful way. Because of its sacred nature, it’s important to create a Singing Time experience that is both engaging and spiritually uplifting. Here are some creative ways to teach and reinforce this song with your Primary!

Resurrection Eggs Visuals

Create a set of Resurrection Eggs to help illustrate the message of the song. Each egg contains a small object representing a key phrase or concept. For example:

  • Egg 1: A small cross (representing Jesus’ crucifixion)
  • Egg 2: A piece of cloth (reminding children of Jesus’ burial)
  • Egg 3: A small stone (symbolizing the stone that was rolled away)
  • Egg 4: An empty egg (illustrating the empty tomb and resurrection)

As you sing the song, let children take turns opening an egg and briefly discussing how it relates to the lyrics.

Hand Actions & Simple Sign Language

For younger Primary children, incorporating simple hand motions or ASL signs can make the song more engaging and memorable.

Some easy signs to include:

  • Jesus (Touch middle fingers to both palms)
  • Again (Make a circle with one hand and tap it with the other hand)
  • Live (Raise two “L” shaped hands upward, like growing life)
  • Body (Touch shoulders, then waist)

This movement-based approach helps visual learners connect with the song’s meaning.

Picture Puzzle Reveal

Print out a large picture of Jesus appearing after His resurrection, then cut it into puzzle pieces. As the children sing, they earn a puzzle piece for each successful verse or phrase. By the end of Singing Time, the full picture is revealed!

For an added challenge, hide the puzzle pieces around the room and let children find them as they sing.

Echo Singing & Testimony Sharing

This song’s structure lends itself well to echo singing—where the teacher sings a line and the children repeat it. After learning the song, pause between verses and ask:

  • What does this song teach us about Jesus?
  • How does knowing Jesus lives again make you feel?
  • Why is the resurrection important to us?

Let a few children share their thoughts to bring a personal and spiritual element to Singing Time.

Soft & Strong Dynamics Activity

Since this song begins reverently but ends with a joyful testimony, you can teach soft and strong dynamics by using:

  • A picture of a sunrise (for soft singing during the first verse)
  • A bright sun (for stronger, joyful singing on “Yes! At Easter time He came!”)

This helps children feel the change in emotion throughout the song and makes the final message even more powerful.

Story Telling

Mirror Movement – Reflecting Jesus’ Love

Give each child a small hand mirror (or just have them imagine one). As they sing, encourage them to “reflect” Jesus’ love by:

  • Smiling at their reflection
  • Passing the “light of Jesus” by giving a kind look to a neighbor
  • Thinking of a way they can follow Jesus today

This ties in beautifully with the message that Jesus lives again and wants us to follow Him.

Eraser Pass Game

Silent Movie & Word Strip

To reinforce memorization, play a silent movie game where you hold up word strips for key lyrics while children silently mouth the words. Then, remove words one by one until they can sing the whole song without any help!

You can also assign volunteers to silently act out parts of the song (e.g., someone “waking up” like Jesus, rolling away a pretend stone) while the group sings.

“Who Said It?” Scripture Match

Since this song teaches about Jesus’ resurrection, match it with scripture stories! Write quotes or scripture verses on strips of paper and let children match them to different parts of the song. Examples:

  • “He is not here: for he is risen” (Matthew 28:6) – Matches the message of the chorus
  • “Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father” (John 20:17) – Relates to Jesus appearing to Mary

By using a variety of these activities, you can create a Singing Time that helps children both learn the words and feel the spirit of Did Jesus Really Live Again? Whether through visuals, movement, scripture, or testimony, the goal is to help Primary children internalize the beautiful truth that Jesus Christ truly lives!

Flip Charts

Thank you to Collette from Facebook for sharing her idea:

I put the following up on the board (first two questions, then the picture of the Savior holding hands out), then hid around the room the other three corresponding answers/last question. We sang through each verse until one child found the corresponding answer/picture. While singing, I let the jr primary kids showcase the picture they’d found, which was pretty cute (little sunbeam age child walking showing everyone the picture).
