In reply to Lisa. I'm sorry that I haven't responded yet! We actually still use the white noise at night occasionally, though he doesn't throw a fit if we forget to turn it on. You could try switching to something like a fan, which still has white noise but you can usually turn down levels. I'm not totally sure if that would work, but it might be worth a try!

Hey Katie, I was curious how you weaned Jack from the Marpac, if you have at all. Dr. Karp recommends turning down the volume slowly over time until it’s silent, but the Marpac doesn’t allow that type of volume control. Any thoughts?

We had pretty good results getting our youngest to sleep using white noise. We mixed up a version of our own with rain and waves too – check it out. https://www.whywontmybabysleep.co.uk/white-noise-for-babies/ Pretty relaxing for adults too.

We had a sound machine for Eli and we loved it. It was one of the best gifts I got. After several months of using it he would go to sleep almost instantly when we turned it on and I never had to worry about being super quiet while he was asleep.

I have heard from many that white noise is great for calming a baby or putting them to sleep. My son seems to like white noise, but I don’t find that it always works. He such an inquisitive little bugger, that he looks all around trying to figure out where the noise is coming from. My husband uses an old gift wrap paper tube to blow through and that seems the quiet my son every time he blows through it. its the funniest thing, but its the only “white noise” that works.

Stopping by from HDYDI! Great post! We use our white noise machine every night. It’s been a lifesaver for those late night barking fits from our bull dog, the preteen stomping up and down the stairs and the occasional doorbell late day package delivery. Thank God for white noise!
