Are you wondering, "How soon can you get symptoms of pregnancy?" It may be sooner than you think - this post has a long list of early pregnancy symptoms that might indicate you're growing a new life before you even get a positive test. While there may not be 70 early signs of pregnancy in post, it has some of the most common (and uncommon) early pregnancy signs.  via @clarkscondensed

While some believe you can’t feel symptoms of pregnancy until you’ve missed your period – many of us moms know better! Here are 70+ early pregnancy symptoms you might experience – even before your missed period.

Very early pregnancy symptoms you may experience soon after conception.

Super Early Signs of Pregnancy

Right before I found out I was pregnant with Jack, I really had no idea. In fact, I distinctly remember thinking to myself, “Well, I know I’m not going to be pregnant this month” (which, at the time, felt like a relief!) Little did I know that a few days later, I would get the biggest news of my life!

This time around, I knew I was pregnant long before I took a pregnancy test. Don’t ask me why – I just did! I honestly felt like I had very early pregnancy symptoms, so when I took that at home test, and it showed up positive literally in seconds (which happened with Jack as well – no waiting five minutes for me), I wasn’t surprised at all.

By the time my third pregnancy came along, I could tell something was “different” pretty quickly by some of the subtle symptoms. Many of those symptoms came far before my missed period!

I know a lot of women who are trying to conceive are hyperaware of their body, and they are looking for just about every sign that they could be pregnant – there are common symptoms and there are some weird pregnancy symptoms you can even be on the lookout for!

Whether you are looking for 70 signs of early pregnancy or just to see if one weird symptom you are experiencing is related to pregnancy, we’ve got you covered!

What does early pregnancy feel like?

This is going to be different for every woman. For many women, they don’t even feel different than normal.

However, for others, things might just feel a little “off.” It is a feeling that is hard to explain.

How Early Are There Signs of Pregnancy?

There is a lot of debate on this one – some say it’s impossible to feel symptoms until you at least have enough pregnancy hormones that can be detected in your blood or urine…but if you scour the Internet, you will find many people who will challenge that.

Personally, I have felt symptoms before I could get a positive at home test – most notably, my reflux gets out of control (even with medicine) and my breasts/nipples are incredibly tender.

It can be hard to find the difference between early symptoms and symptoms that your period is about to start – because many of them are very similar – so it’s best not to get too excited until you get a positive test. However, if you are feeling something different from what you’ve normally felt, then you could be pregnant.

Many women report feeling extra emotional or crampy during implantation, which can happen as soon as five days past ovulation. There’s not a lot of science to back up feeling symptoms this early – but there are plenty of women who will say otherwise!

Expected Pregnancy Signs

1) Positive Pregnancy Test

Of course, the most sure fire way to find out if you are pregnant is with an Hcg test. Throughout the years, home tests have really evolved. While you used to have to wait until after your missed period (of course, one of the biggest signs of of being pregnant), there have been many advancements that allow you to find out several days before a missed period.

Even with the ability to test earlier than ever both, some symptoms can start soon after conception. Here are several early signs that you may experience before you can even take a test (of course, taking a test is the only way to really confirm that you are pregnant so if you suspect you are pregnant, make sure you take one!)

2) Heartburn

Acid reflux during pregnancy is something I am all too familiar with (during and not during pregnancy). Before I found out I was pregnant with Oliver, I noticed that my acid reflux was significantly worse than it had been for months, and I could barely stand it. I remember thinking, “I wonder if I’m pregnant?” And I was!

From what I’ve observed, having acid reflux in the early weeks is very common. So if you are feeling extra heart burn-y…you could be pregnant!

I recommend getting a high-quality pregnancy pillow once you get pregnant. You can get this one for $50 using the code C113D4, making it around $40. Pregnancy pillows are great for helping with reflux!

3) Nausea

Most people won’t start experiencing nausea until they’ve already taken a test, however, some people will experience it right away. With my second, I found out I was pregnant right at four weeks, and I started feeling nauseous the next day.

If you don’t find out you are pregnant super early, it’s very possible that you may start feeling queasy before you even realize you are pregnant. And if you are unfortunate enough to experience morning sickness, be sure to check out these tips for surviving morning sickness, as well as natural morning sickness treatments. Make sure you grab some preggie pops. LOVE them!

4) Fatigue

Feeling extra tired for no apparent reason? It might be because a baby is on it’s way! This is one of the symptoms many women experience first!

5) Basal Body Temperature

This is what tipped me off to my pregnancy with Jack a few days before I could take a test. I had been vigilant about tracking my basal body temperature, so when I saw that my basal body temperature didn’t drop like it was supposed to, I was pretty convinced I would probably have a positive test still (though, getting that positive was still a shock.)

Here is some more information on basal body temperature. You can buy a basal body thermometer here.

Someone women even will experience an “implantation temperature drop” in their cycle tracking 5-8 days past ovulation, so if you see a drop at this point, don’t automatically think you aren’t pregnant.

Less Common Pregnancy Signs

6) Indigestion

Feeling a little bit of a sour stomach or “bubbles” in your chest after eating? Indigestion is always one of my first signs of pregnancy.

7) Feeling Hot

Are you feeling extra hot? Many pregnant women experience a shift in temperature when they become pregnant!

8) Bloating

Bloating is very common in pregnancy, especially in the early weeks. Many women comment on feeling like they look a couple months pregnant during the first few days and weeks.

I experienced this with my second child– I looked in the mirror, and I couldn’t believe how big my stomach looked! Exercising and drinking a lot of water made my stomach go back to normal the next day, but if you are feeling extra bloated, it could mean pregnancy. Belly bands will be your best friend at this time.

You can get FREE belly bands here using the code C113D4. I got several of these with my second pregnancy, and they were great quality.

9) Cold

Some feel extra hot…while others feel a temperature shift in the opposite direction!

10) Headache

Very common at any point, and they can start very soon after conception. I’ve heard that peppermint essential oils can help!

11) Dizziness

It’s very common to feel lightheaded or a little bit off balance!

12) Insomnia

Ugh! The start of your sleepless nights as a parent might start a little earlier than you originally anticipated!

13) Thirst

Can’t seem to quench your thirst? It might be because you’re drinking for two now!

14) Diarrhea

Early pregnancy diarrhea is unpleasant, but actually quite common when it comes to early pregnancy.

15) Constipation

Or maybe you’re feeling a little backed up? Many mothers experience constipation in those early weeks!

16) Bloody Nose

Bloody noses are certainly common throughout all pregnancy, but some mothers could this lovely side effect pretty quickly.

17) Ears Plugged Up

I don’t usually get this until the second trimester, but it’s so miserable. Some ladies experience this sooner.

18) Cold and Flu Symptoms

Feeling like you got hit by a truck? While it certainly could just be the common cold or the flu, it could be pregnancy!

19) Forgetfulness

Pregnant brain is a real thing, and I swear it happens earlier and earlier with each child!

20) Acne

While many women get a few new blemishes with pregnancy due to the increase in hormones, some women will experience full on acne – even as one of their first symptoms!

21) Vaginal Discharge

An increase in discharge can be expected. If you notice anything that smells or looks funny, make sure to call your doctor!

22) Bleeding Gums

Pregnant women are much more susceptible to bleeding gums and gum disease during pregnancy. I noticed early on that my gums were bleeding like crazy (I actually ended up getting dental planning done on them, which did help. My gums were left in a bad state – partially due to all my morning sickness!)

I’ve found that using a good quality electric toothbrush and a good quality mout wash (if you can stand it) can make a world of difference.

23) Light Green Stool

24) Implantation Cramps

This may feel like your period is about to start, but if it doesn’t and you are experiencing menstrual like cramps, it could be because of implantation (which happens about 9 days after ovulation). It is also very common to feel cramping during the first few weeks as your uterus is starting to rapidly expand.

25) Vision Changes

26) Trouble Staying Asleep

This only gets worse the longer your pregnancy goes on!

27) Weight Gain

28) Gagging

29) Can’t Stand Toothpaste

30) Cramping

31) Brittle Nails

32) Drooling

33) Carpal Tunnel

34) Darkened Areolas

This can happen pretty quickly after you conceive!

35) Cold Feet

You might literally have cold feet…or maybe might be feeling like you are second guessing whether or not you want to get pregnant!

36) UTI

37) Light Spotting

About 30% of women will experience implantation bleeding, which is associated with implantation. This can happen around the same time as the cramping I described above. It’s usually not very dark (it can be anywhere from pinkish to brown), and it’s usually a very small amount.

38) Darkening of Skin

This could be in small patches anywhere on your body!

39) Hot Flashes

40) Weird Dreams

Some women have a dream that they are pregnant – and that’s the first indicator to them that they are! Or dreams might just get weirder and weirder.

41) Hunger

Can’t seem satiate your hunger? You might be pregnant!

42) Loss of Appetite

Or the opposite might happen. You might not be feeling morning sickness – just a general feeling of not being hungry.

43) Sweatiness

44) Increased Urination

Pregnant women tend to pee a lot, and the early hormonal changes can make that start happening earlier than they realize.

45) Skin Breakouts

46) More Pronounced Veins

I had one in my face that appeared early on with my third pregnancy. You might see them in your face, your legs, your breasts, your chest…all over!

47) Backache

48) Gassiness

Don’t worry – just blame it on the baby!

49) Cravings

50) False Period Signs

An impending period and early pregnancy feel very, very similar. You might think your period is about to start…and then it doesn’t. You could be pregnanct!

51) Fainting

52) Itchy Skin

53) Sex Drive Change

Some women feel even more aroused when they get pregnant, while others can’t think of anything that they’d rather do less!

54) No pre-period Weight Gain

This was another thing that made me think I was pregnant with this baby. Usually a few days before my period begins, I will gain about three pounds. Well, in January, I noticed that I did not gain that expected three pounds I gain every month. I remember telling Forrest, “Well, I haven’t gained any weight. I think I might be pregnant!”

55) Cervix Height

This is another one that the jury is out on whether it’s an effective measurement..but your cervix height usually will drop right before your period starts, so if you are pretty good at regularly measuring it, you might be able to tell!

56) Quick to Cry

57) Strange Taste in your mouth

58) Super smell

Pregnant women are known for their super sense of smell. It’s pretty much a curse (I can’t even stand to go near the fridge or the sink when there are dirty dishes in them.) This starts very early with me, and if you are noticing smells a lot more, you might be pregnant!

59) Stuffed Up Nose

60) Tender Breasts

This was always a big one for me. I always have some breast tenderness before my period starts, but with pregnancy, it’s a whole different level. It’s like I can’t even be bumped accidentally without feeling really sore!

61) Runny Nose

62) Slowed Hair Growth

63) Sweating

64) Tender Nipples

65) Can’t Stand the Smell Of Your Spouse or Child

66) Leg Cramps

If this happens to you, try to increase your magnesium intake!

67) Anxious Feelings

68) Depression

69) Migraine

70) You Just Know

Sometimes, you just know. Without having any symptoms or a positive pregnancy test…you just know.

My husband and I just started trying for our 2nd. This week I have had heartburn almost every day, which I rarely ever get. I got it a lot when I was pregnant with my son so it really makes me wonder. It took us over a year to get pregnant with him so I would be shocked if it happened on the first try. As I was reading your article I felt like I was writing it. My son’s name is Jack and I thought I was definitely not pregnant that month then the test was a big shock when it came out positive!

On May I have found out that I was pregnant of maybe 2 to 3 weeks s after I had miscarriage, then soon after was involved in sexual intercourse then the next day I drink morning after pills, so since then I was vomiting, had lost of appetite, hurt burn, bloating and I did not not see my period since then, so is it possible that I could be pregnant? And it’s now that I feel tight in breasts as I was used when I am going to see my period?

Don’t feel stupid at all! Hormones change insanely fast during pregnancy – especially right after conception. It’s very normal to feel like your body is already changing.

Don’t take Tums! I know it can be tempting when you feel like there is a dragon in your chest but Tums or the like, can actually cause more acid to develop leading to a cycle of increasingly bad heart burn. It’s amazing that some OBs still recommend Tums as safe knowing that it only makes the problem last longer and get worse. Instead try Apple Cider Vinegar. It works like a charms without the long term side effects.

Thanks for the reminder of early symptoms! I’m 6 days before my missed period but I am having terrible bloating, gas, diarrhea, heartburn, nausea & vomiting. Basically every stomach issue possible. I’m hoping baby #4 is on the way!

I have a few quesitons. I received the depo shot once, back in January. Since then my cylce has yet to be normal. Well May 25th I started the longest bleeding cycle ever. This lasted until July 10th. I then went 21 days with no bleeding, and then, Bled lightly on August 2nd and 3rd. That was it! since the shot i’ve had one month of bleeding, and one without as a pattern. So when this lasted more than 31 days it was odd. Now the 2 day bleeding was the weirdest part. August 7th I started feeling nauseous, and cramps have appeared very severely on and off, the nausea has not gone away and it is now August 15th. (TMI)Diarrhea has been a factor for about two weeks now as well and I just feel AWFUL. My sex drive has raised a ton and I constantly feel hungry. Negative test. Could I still be pregnant? Ive had 3 kids already but I’m not sure if this is the depo still messing with me, or if this will be the real thing. I want it so bad……

Tums are not good for anybody let alone a pregnant mama. They rob the body of calcium. Safe alternatives are lemon juice, baking soda, or apple cider vinegar in a glass of water.

Have been SUPER bloated, but haven’t noticed anything else out of the ordinary.

Hmmm pain in the right shoulder can be indicative of a gall bladder problem.

I saw my last period October 15th, 2017. I was supposed to see the next one November 12th, but i didn’t see it, so i took a pregnancy Test, it was POSITIVE. On 20th of that same November, i spotted. Then on the 7th of December, I started Spotting again with CLOT, so I went to the Hospital and the Doctor told me there was no problem, that the Spotting I am experiencing is IMPLANTATION BLEEDING, that I should go home, so I left. The Bleeding continued for a MONTH and THREE WEEKS, so i went back to the Hospital and Doctor asked me to take another PEGNANCY TEST, and i did. so the Doctor asked me to registered for Athinenta, and I did. When the Bleeding finally stopped, i did a Home Test and a Blood Test, it was NAGETIVE, not knowing that i have already MISCARRIAHE. Remember, the Bleeding started December 7th 2017 to January 28th, 2018. So on 25th of February, i saw my period and it Rushed normal and ended normal, but on the 12th of MARCH it came out again instead of 24th, it did not Rush like my normal Period but it also ended for 4days. Right now I am having Headache,Flu, Temperature, Breast Heaviness. So, I don’t know if the last period was Implantation Bleeding or not. And I don’t know why the Periods seemed to take another different Shape all together. Someone should Help me out.Thanks.

I have irregular period, my last period was January 20th, I took ovulation tests and I was ovulating, on those days I had unprotected sex. I took blood work to check if I’m pregnant and it came back negative. Can it be that I took the test too early ?

Many tests you can take a few days before your missed period. However, I always wait until a day after.

I’ve only been pregnant twice so far (this will be my first birth though if it holds) and I’ve noticed that for me I get EXTREMELY clumsy (like throw my hands up, I’m done just admit me already kind of clumsy) even with the simplest and silly things and then not to long (about 2 days) after this starts, my dog gets super clingy and needy for attention. This is all about a week before I can take a test.

Well, with me I had no idea, because I was dealing with a cyst on my right ovary. So it was normal to me to have missed periods. I would get it early, get it a few days late, get it a wk or 2 late.. but when I look back…

My subway tasted bland… I would get pissy so fast over the smallest things… super emotional…
And why I didn’t think I was pregnant was because I get super emotional around my period and hormonal.. so it was like nah I couldn’t be.. I was cramping I was like ik definitely gonna start my period any day.
My friend convinced me to take a test.. I waited 2 mins looked at the test.. nothing showed up handed it to my friend and the line started to appear when she was holding it. I was in shock… I was like no way… no way… my fiance and I only had (sorry tmi) 1 time the month before. It’s true it only takes 1 time to get pregnant.

I drink alot of coffee.. Lol that being said I have been waking up to pee and have too pee 10 minutes after I pee especially at night which is unusual for me.. my boyfriend and I had sex around the time I assume I was fertile .. my period isn’t due for 6 to7 more days I have also been constipated (due to drinking coffee that never happens lol) I have also had to ask my boyfriend to get me tums as I had heartburn and bloating .. we don’t want kids but I have a feeling I may be pregnant.
One boob is sore but that’s normal before my period as I normally don’t have PMS until a day or 2 before my period.

I am reading this because I think I may be pregnant, I have had a period since the time I would have conceived but I have several symtoms of pregnancy: acne, bloating, fatigue, heightened smell, frequent urination, tender breast, and another one that isn’t mentioned much… its probably tmi but I typically have a high sex drive, consistantly, and for the past several days I haven’t wanted to do anything sexual at all…. is that normal? Idk if I’m being paranoid or if I’m pregnant…

My husband and I were pregnant back in May 2015 but had to have an abortion due to medical issues the baby had. Here it is almost 2yrs later and we have not been lucky enough to become pregnant again. We’ve been trying since Oct 2015. I’ve experienced some of the signs mentioned in this blog before but still no baby. I could remember my first pregnancy, I was 13wks never was sick or felt any symptoms. I just so happen to take a test just because I knew we were trying. Now I’m seeing a Fertility Dr. They’ve discovered some scar tissue that may be causing our issue. This may be out of the subject but just curious if any one has gone through this or knows anyone. I’m set to have it removed April 5. Nervous and just praying this is the cause of many months of not getting the positive lines my husband and I have been waiting for. Thanks

While essential oils are extremely effective, they are not recommended until after the first trimester because they can have an effect on the developing fetus most sensitive in the first trimester. Wait until after week 12 to utilize essential oils to ensure maximum safety of baby.

2 years ago my sweet husband had a vasectomy, year later I became pregnant. Unfortunately I had a miscarriage at 12 weeks, embryo was only at 8 weeks though, wasn’t able to get in for my first appointment due to no health insurance yet. We were in between jobs. My husband then had another vasectomy few months later. 11 months later here we are pregnant again!! I am at 5 weeks 5 days along. The first miscarriage I had really really sore boobs. This one I don’t, it makes me nervous as ever. I do have a few of your symptoms. Heartburn, boobs are little swollen, can hardly wear a bra the pressure around my mid section is restraining, bloody nose on occasion, acne and little bloating oh and headaches. I am glad I found your site feeling a little more reassured . Doc is going to put me on Progesterone Monday, taking more prenatal add one this time too. I have two weeks till I can’t get in for my first appointment to hear heartbeat. Oh and haven’t been able to tell my husband due to he works out of town. Surprise!! Trying not to stress, please pray for Us. I really think God has a plan for us to be a bigger family don’t think he wants us to be done yet. P.s I have an amazing 7 year old boy that keeps asking for a brother or a sister?. I do know I am at high risk due to that I am almost 44. Deep breaths, stay calm.. Thanks for listening.

Hello, I am a 43 year old mom with a 6 year old son. I was told at 18 I would never have children due to poly cystic ovary, endo dimetriosis and one functional ovary. Proved then wrong and have my wonderful son, 2 years later I had no idea wasn’t feeling well so had gone to ER found out I was pregnant, however due to unfortunate circumstances I had a miscarriage. I should also note my first pregnancy was very high risk due to high blood pressure and other complications. Well now I and 5 days late for my period and I am always to day, even second each month…. always right on time! The last few days I have a very mature appetite, severe nausea and extreme heartburn at night with that horrible burning in my throat and have to sleep sitting up. Unfortunately due to many medical issues I am undergoing, needing double knee replacement, hip replacement, can’t even walk I am very scared how this could effect me still having the extreme high blood pressure. Thank you for listening, just a concerned women in my 40’s.

Great list! I suffered with infertility and had several miscarriages along the way. We quit “trying” to have a baby over 10 years ago. I had been 40 a few months and since I have PCOS it didn’t occur to me that I could be pregnant, because it is normal to have spotting and cramping with no real period for months on end. I also traveled internationally and was EXHAUSTED, but I blamed jet lag. My face was breaking out A LOT, but I blamed stress. It wasn’t until I was on an international flight back home and I had to get up and pee ALL the time, SO much more than normal, and I hardly had been drinking anything at all on the plane. I got home was still exhausted, was still cramping but no period, still had my face breaking out and then realized that my boobs were hurting SO badly. I put all of these symptoms together and thought surely not. I took a pregnancy test, first one in over a decade and sure enough I was pregnant!! Nine weeks to be exact. I had that little fellow almost 5 months ago and am still in complete shock that I got pregnant!! LOL

That’s so crazy how the body works this way… I normally like ranch, anyway, but when I was pregnant in 2016 (lost the baby very early in the pregnancy-about 5-6 weeks), I had to have ranch with ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING!! Also, I was about 2-3 weeks along and had no idea I could even get pregnant (endometriosis & family history), when the pepperoni pizzas from dominoes that I had been scarfing down all the time, suddenly tasted and smelled HORRIBLE! Like rancid ham or something. I just thought I was sick of them! Then 2+ weeks later, after multiple trips to the ER due to pain near my gallbladder, I got a BFP when they made me take another PT before sending me in for a CT! Hope everyone is happy and healthy! Last year we had two miscarriage (I was 34yrs old so I’m no spring chicken). Since then we have taken the steps needed to have a healthy pregnancy. We have spent 8+ months getting my body ready, taking the prenatals/folic acid/baby asprin/progesterone the nurse recommended I try to “make my uterus a hospitable home”, lol! I stumbled across your page – I didn’t have any symptoms like the ones I’m experiencing now last year.
It made me feel good to know that some of your early symptoms are what I am feeling now. I took a pregnancy test over 2 weeks ago, got a strong positive and I have my first appointment next week (7weeks according to first day of LMC). The symptoms of acne, “just knowing”, headaches, and severe nausea (which i didn’t have for either 2 miscarriages), a high basal body temperature…. all of which I felt before the test — soI hope this means this pregnancy will stick.
    Cool website, great content.

With my first, I had NO idea I was pregnant even though we had been trying for nearly a year. I missed my period and took a test about a week later. The day after the positive pregnancy test was when the nausea and vomiting started. With my second I had NO idea I was pregnant again, but this time because we weren’t even trying. The nausea started and that’s when I took a pregnancy test. Sure enough! I’m not always aware of what’s going on with my body, but a missed period and/or nausea will definitely make me suspicious!
