Back in May, we had the opportunity to have a family vacation out in Southern California. To say we’ve been looking forward to this trip for a long time was an understatement.
Jack is at such a fun age, and I think it was the perfect time to take him to Disneyland. Everything is so magical to him, and he is old enough to be able to enjoy most of the rides.
I’ve been to Disneyland a few times, but I have to say, it’s even better with a child.
Some of my family decided to come along for the trip, so we thought it would be fun to find a place we could all stay together. There are a lot of hotels around Disneyland, but we decided to try out a home rental.
In my research, I came across Twelve Springs. It’s a company that owns several homes in the Anaheim area that are available for rental. I reached out to the company, and they were so generous to offer us four nights to stay at one of the properties.
After much deliberation, we decided to stay at the Osh Kosh Pool Home. It was pretty close to the Disney parks, shopping, as well as Knottsberry Farm. It was spacious enough to host seven adults and six children, and it had a lot of fun things to do! It was *almost* tempting to skip back early from Disneyland just to relax.
We ended up having four different families, on a bit of staggered schedule, stay at the Osh Kosh while we were in Anaheim. The five bedrooms and three baths, plus spacious family and dining areas gave us plenty of space to spend high-quality family time together.
Before I go into the details of this beautiful home, I thought I’d share a few reasons why you may want to consider a home from 12 Springs over a traditional hotel when staying in Disneyland.
- Having a kitchen makes it easier to save money on food. You can prepare sandwiches to bring in the park, make breakfasts and dinners at home, etc.
- Although the initial price may seem a bit pricey, these homes are large enough that you can easily share them with several other families. By sharing the cost with a few other families, it makes it very affordable.
- Spacious – you don’t feel cramped in a small hotel room. Everyone can spread out and not feel like they are on top of each other.
- The homes are professionally managed – they are available 24/7 in case anything happens!
- Every home has wi-fi, television, a pool and/or hot tub, a beautiful kitchen, and much more. Each home has its own perks that make them very enjoyable.
We loved that there was a huge kitchen so we could prepare some of our meals ourselves. While we ate in the park most days for lunch and dinners, it was nice to be able to have breakfast there, as well as prepare a few snacks to bring into the park. The kitchen was very large, and there was also TONS of space for everyone to sit and eat. No need to fight over seating.
I think we all agreed that one of our favorite parts of the Osh Kosh was the pool in the backyard. It was nice and large, surrounded by orange trees, and it was just a great place for all of us to hang out. The pool was longer and deeper than some hotel swimming pools, and the water temperature was perfect. We liked the arid landscaping that definitely looked like it belonged in Southern California. There looked to be two little orange trees, but we soon found out they were a bit too sour to eat!
There was a grill in the backyard as well that we wish we had been able to use. We all really enjoyed hanging out in the backyard, though!
The kids had fun sleeping in the same room that had lots of bunk beds. They were way too tired from fun and travel to keep each other up at night, which was nice! I think most of the kids fell asleep as soon as their heads hit the pillow. You can definitely fit a lot of kids in there, since the bottom bunk were full-size beds. Bring a couple of air mattresses and they could even fit a few more on the ground (but who am I kidding…kids usually love sleeping on the ground with or without an air mattress!)
Our Osh Kosh home even had a crib and changing table, which was great since Oliver is a baby and couldn’t really sleep with all the big kids.
Really, the main feature of this home was it being located close to Disneyland. The home is a mile or two away from Disneyland, but it was very simple to navigate from the resort to Disneyland. It only took two turns to get to the entrance of Disneyland. We had dinner at Knottsberry Farm the first night we were there, and that was only about a fifteen-minute drive. I regret that I forgot to eat my leftover slice of pie from Knottsberry Farm.
Additionally, there is a well-stocked game room with a ping-pong table, Foosball table, shuttle board table, and board games. Part of the reason the game room was so great is that the kids could be loud and active away from the adults. There were lots of flat screen TVs to occasionally keep kids occupied as well.
All of the rooms had very comfortable mattresses, comforters, and pillows. We were spoiled and got to stay in the most luxurious suite – a king size bed and a bathroom with a jetted tub.
Even though we had the biggest room, all of the other rooms very comfortable as well. My mom even said she wanted to find out what kind of mattress they had because she slept so well.
Overall, Twelve Springs provides vacation homes, like the Osh Kosh Pool house, close to Disneyland that can allow a family or families to comfortably maximize family vacation time.
I really felt that a traditional hotel would have made if feel like we were vacationing near each other instead of together. We all loved being able to have our own rooms, but that we were able to meet together outside or in the living room and just spend time making memories.
Best of all I’ll remember how great the beds felt after a long day of walking about twenty miles around Disneyland.
If you are interested in booking a vacation home through Twelve Springs, you can do so on their website or on HomeAway – here is the link to book the Osh Kosh! They have a lot of other beautiful homes available, so take a look until you find one that you love. Another one we considered was The Carnelian, which had five bedrooms, three baths, and the most gorgeous pool area! It has a bit of a more modern feel than the Osh Kosh, and it’s really pretty.
