{{Easy}} Caramel Apple Popcorn

Ready for fall yet? This easy caramel apple popcorn has flavors of fall and is made using only a few ingredients! It might just replace any other caramel popcorn recipe you make.

This caramel apple popcorn is perfect for fall and absolutely delicious!

I’ve said this before, but it’s so important to me to teach Jack to cook. If there’s one skill he’ll have when he leaves home (in a very, very long time), it will be how to cook good, healthy (ish) meals. Luckily, he loves cooking with me. Whenever I’m making something in the kitchen, he pulls over a chair and eagerly waits for me to give him some kind of task to do.

Sometimes, when I’m doing something not kid friendly (like cutting vegetables, or working entirely on the stove top), I have to redirect his attention to something else. However, most of the time, I enjoy letting him do simple tasks. He loves it and so do I. I think some of the best memories are made in the kitchen.

The other day, I decided to make some caramel apple popcorn after I saw some at the store. Jack loves popcorn, so as soon as he saw me pull out a bag of popcorn, he immediately jumped right in. I’ve recently starting using store bought popcorn (healthier brands like Skinny Pop) because it’s must easier than trying to get all the kernels out.  Plus, Jack loved being able to pour the cups of popcorn onto the baking sheet! Though, when I don’t have time to get any from the store, I always have a container of popcorn kernels on hand, so I can make this easy brown bag microwave popcorn (so much better for you than regular microwave popcorn!)

Jack quickly learning my favorite cooking rule — taste as you go (if you don’t believe me, watch Master Chef. They always are telling people to taste as you they cook!)

He loved unwrapping the caramels (even though I wouldn’t let him eat them) and putting them into the pot. I think his favorite job — besides sampling the popcorn — was crushing up the dried apples.

I obviously couldn’t let him help as I melted the caramels with the almond milk, but I loved that he was able to help me make this simple treat for the most part. This caramel apple popcorn has some yummy fall flavors to it, and it would be the perfect after-school-snack. It only has a few ingredients (caramels, almond milk, dried apples, and popcorn), and it tastes delicious!

Ingredients
  • 8-10 cups popped popcorn
  • ½ bag caramels, unwrapped
  • ¼ cup almond milk
  • ½ cup of dried apples, crushed into smaller pieces
Instructions
  1. Place popcorn evenly on a baking sheet. Set aside.
  2. Unwrap caramels and place in sauce pan. Add milk.
  3. Over medium high heat, melt the caramels and milk together, stirring constantly to make sure it doesn't burn. It will start to bubble. Stir until it starts to thicken.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in the crushed up dried apples.
  5. Immediately pour over the popcorn and stir until all the popcorn is covered. Let cool about an hour.

  • Ha. I guess I shouldn't be so hard on my daughter for tasting as she helps me cook then, huh. They totally tell you to taste as you cook on MasterChef. Ha ha ha. This looks GOOD! I love popcorn!
    • Haha! Send your daughter over to my house -- eating as we go is the way to go! haha. But I figure if MasterChef says it's okay...haha. And I love popcorn too -- sadly, we've discovered it really makes Jack and I sick...but that doesn't stop me haha! You'll have to tell me if you try this :)
