I agree with you, we will never know when a disaster is going to happen or what kind of disaster or emergency is going to happen. That is why it is important to be prepared in any kind of emergencies. Communicate with your community and stand by for any announcement for evacuation. And also save some money in your bank account for your financial stability.

Thanks Susan! And I totally agree — I realized I never finished that thought! I thought 14 gallons a day was kind of crazy (part of me thinks my friend was saying that — in case you need it for bathing, bathroom, etc.) I meant to put a recommendation down that was closer to what you are saying 🙂 Thanks for catching that!

Hi Katie! Great post with lots of important information (and links, too). I’m thinking, though, that the amount of water suggested to have on hand is a bit off. Getting ready to update hurricane preparations in my area (season starts June 1st) and what FEMA recommends is 1 gallon/person/day. So, for two weeks it would be a total of 14 gallons per person, not 14 per person per day. Otherwise, I think we would all be ‘swimming’ in water.

This is a great prize! We had 72 hour kits and food storage before we went to China, but we gave it all to our kids when we went. I need to build it all back up again and get some 72 hour kits. We should always be prepared, like the boy scouts. Right? Great tips.
