Family meal time…forced family fun. Whatever way you put it, family meal time is important.
Growing up, we had dinner together every single night. It wasn’t always the most pleasant experience, but some of my most fond memories came from those dinners. Now that I’m a parent myself, I am so grateful that my parent’s felt that having regular family dinners was important, as I feel like it forged a strong bond between my siblings, parents, and me. It was a time where we could discuss everything from the day, and enjoy good food at the same time.
One dinner that I remember very fondly was when my parent’s announced that my mom was pregnant with my little brother. I was about six year’s old at the time, and was the typical, youngest child. I did not want someone to take my place. I remember crying and saying I was going to throw him in the trash (don’t worry, I didn’t.) I feel like one of the things that “softened the blow” was the fact that we were eating dinner.
While I think homemade dinners are delicious, I think my mom was able to consistently make dinners in a timely fashion because she used store bought products, such as spaghetti sauce or canned chicken. I’ve taken on this “semi-homemade” attitude, and it makes meal time so much easier. One of my favorite meals is spaghetti, and my favorite brand is Ragú® Old World Style® Traditional Sauce. It’s the closest to homemade sauce I’ve found, and I feel good about serving it to my family. It’s packed with 11 juicy tomatoes, which makes it richer, thicker, and honestly, just taste better. They recently created a new formula for their sauce, and it’s delicious! I use spaghetti sauce in so many dishes (lasagna, ziti, spaghetti, etc.), and I only like to use the best…which Ragú is!
As part of launching the new sauce, Ragú is hosting a fun sweepstakes — there are a bunch of prizes you can win, including authnetic Italian themed prizes, and a grand prize trip to Italy for a family of four!
No matter what stage your family is in, I encourage you to try and have more family dinners. Research shows that kids appreciate it, and it positively impacts not only their lives, but their parents as well. For delicious recipe ideas, be sure to check out Ragú’s Facebook page.
