You might be wondering, why is Katie writing about camping in the middle of the winter.
Well, there’s a few good reasons.
In some places in the United States, the winter is rather mild, and it might actually be more enjoyable to go camping during the winter.
Some people actually go camping during the winter-time (and enjoy it. Ha!) My dad used to take the scouts at church on “Klondikes” during the winter – which is basically a winter campout.
And the main reason? It’s almost Christmas, which is the perfect time to gift someone with some awesome new camping equipment.
As you might remember, we went camping earlier this year. I was quite pregnant, so it wasn’t the most enjoyable experience…but I survived. Nonetheless, I do enjoy camping.

1. Air Mattress
Some people may think this isn’t a necessity, but it sure is for me. The hard ground is not a fun place to be. I highly recommend getting one with a built-in pump as well. Make sure you have patches for leaks, too. As un-fun as it is to sleep on the ground, I think that it’s even worse to have your air mattress deflate (especially when you are pregnant.)
One thing I love about camping is just sitting and enjoy nature. Having a good camping chair makes that even better! I’ve seen these gravity loungers this year, and I really, really want one. I might be tempted to just use it in my house.
I don’t know about you, but a camping trip is NOT complete without a dutch oven dinner. Forrest bought me my own cast iron dutch oven recently, and I can’t wait to use it. As my dad always says – everything always tastes better in the mountains!
4. A Tent
Duh, I know. But could I really share a post with camping essentials without mentioning a tent? The tent we have really only fits three people comfortably, so, since we’ve added a fourth member to our family, we’ll probably need to upgrade next time around. The one I linked to above looks great – I love the addition of the screened porch. It fits eight people – so I guess we could get it and have four more kids (or not.)
We really love canoeing! It’s something I never did until I met Forrest, but anytime we are out near a river or a lake, we can hardly resist going canoeing.
If you like these items, Gander Mountain has all of them and more! In case you are doing some last minute Christmas shopping, I thought I’d host a quick giveaway! All you need to do is go to Gander Mountain and then come back here and tell me what you like most. The winner will get a $50 gift card to Gander Mountain! This giveaway goes through December 20th at 11:59 PM MST.
