Healthgrades App Review

Disclosure: I participated in a campaign for Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Healthgrades. I received a promotional item as a thank you for participating. All opinions are completely my own.

We’ve seen so many doctors over the past year or so, both for Jack and I. During that time, I’ve found that there are definitely excellent doctors…and others that I question how they actually passed the boards. It’s become so important to me to research our doctors out before we go to them, because otherwise, I have the worst luck when it comes to just being assigned a doctor.

Which is why I love Healthgrades.com. There are quite a few medical rating sites out there, and believe me, I’ve spent a lot of time on them. Hands down, I do think that Healthgrades is the best. There’s so much information you can find out about potential physicians, that you can really get a good idea of what you are getting into.

For me, it’s important to find a doctor who really is invested in helping you find out what is wrong. For instance, I had a doctor recently tell me, “Well, if you were having all these problems, and you were 20 years older, we’d be really worried and do lots of tests. But, since you’re not, we’re just not going to worry about it.” And then basically told me I’m just going to have to live in pain. Not exactly what I was looking for.

I was really excited to hear about the new Healthgrades app. I’m a closet nerd when it comes to medical apps (blame it on my time writing for Smart Phone Healthcare!) and I think they can make life so much easier, especially when you have to be involved with different doctors so much.

One of the features I like the most is how you can connect to Facebook, and you are able to see recommendations created by any of your Facebook friends. While I don’t always feel like I would trust all of my Facebook friend’s recommendations, it’s nice to see who others recommend. The app also allows you to save the information about doctors you are already working with, hospitals that you can go to, and you can add reminders about doctor’s appointments. You can add all your family members as well, so it’s easy to keep track of everything.

It’s a simple app, but I think it’s helpful. If anything, it can help you stay more organized, and have a list of your doctors on hand at all times. I mean, just last week we were at an urgent care unit, and both Forrest and I could not remember what the name of our doctor was. We had our iPad, and if I had this app set up then, I could have easily looked it up, and not looked so silly!

The HealthGrades app is free, and available for iOS devices.
