It will be very crucial time for the driver as well as the passengers if some mishap occur on the road by your car while your are in a drive. To avoid this vexatious situation you have to over look all the parts of your vehicle before taking it to out side. For a safety drive brake must be in good functional condition to avoid chances of collision. Check a few basic aspects such as tire, brake pads, engine oil, transmission fluid etc of your car by yourself or take help of a car professional to make sure about actual physical as well as mechanical state of these parts. Engine temperature must be kept in safe value to prolong the life span of the car having better efficiency.

I drive 3 hours to my parents at least once a month and I am always checking my oil before I go. About everything 3 months I take it into the shop to check my battery and everything else, especially if I am driving alone, because I don't want to get stuck somewhere! As the above poster said, I would never think of power steering fluid but thankfully they check that with every oil change.

You are very welcome! One of my cars had a slow leak where you put the power steering fluid, so I'm very familiar with that!

Shall mention this to my Hubby when next we go on holiday.
