I loved the very personal vignette. I think the Colubine tragedy touched every American deeply, although more personal for you. It taught us that wealth and privilege do not prevent the social ills that lead to violence or insulate us from its consequences. It helped us identify the enemy within, which perhaps can be defined as disconnection, isolation, narcisism, materialism a thirst for violence, and often, racism. The Columbine tradedy reminds me that american "greatness" is not defined by numbers going endlessly up in a portfolio of funds, but rather deeply held values we share with our families, our neighbors and our neighbors neighbors. The communication of love, tolerance and empathy is the balm that heals.

Beautifully written Katie! I’m so glad you shared your story. I cried thru the whole thing as I read it to Dad. Sometimes we don’t think about how every person in the community was affected by what happened that day. I love you. ❤️
