There’s something about this time of year that brings out the very best in everyone.
My daughter told me the other day that she loves Christmas time because she feels different inside.
I’ve partnered with Blue Diamond® as part of an Influencer Activation and all opinions expressed in my post are my own.
I think she’s talking about the holiday spirit.
And I’d have to agree.
The holidays are a time of reflecting and thinking of others- and while I wish it lasted year round- I’m grateful for this season and how it brings people together.
I believe all these changes can begin in the home and with our children.
Just think- if they are serving others at a young age it will be something that sticks with them forever.
It doesn’t have to be something big either. There are small ways we can teach our children to serve and give back to others during the holidays and all year long, too.
Here are some easy, kid-friendly ways your children can reach out to others this holiday season.
Shovel snow of an elderly or single neighbor. Wake your kids up early on a school day and go out with them to shovel your neighbors walk ways.
Write thank you cards to your mailman, delivery driver, or other local workers.
Bring cookies to a fire station or police department
Make a meal and deliver to a neighbor
Drop canned food off to a food drive or to your local food bank
Buy the meal of the person behind you in a drive-thru
Leave sticky notes on random car window’s that say “you are loved!” or “have a great day!”
Donate old coats or clothes to a women’s shelter
Go Christmas caroling to your neighbors or someone else that might need some holiday cheer
Offer to babysit for a family with young kids so the parents can have a night to go holiday shopping
Donate to Toys for Tots
This last one is a person favorite of mine.
My kids love doing this one, too. It is a great way teach your children to give to others. Taking my kids to the store to pick out
ys for others is a fun tradition we like to participate in.
We take the time to talk about our blessings and how grateful we are to be able to help others who may be struggling this time of year.
And we all love how easy Toys for Tots makes it to donate a toy at one of their locations.
But now they have made it even easier with another way to support this great cause.
Blue Diamond Snack Almonds is now donating a portion of their proceeds to Toys for Tots.
And because almonds are certified by the American Heart Association as a Heart Healthy Food you can feel good about buying them for your family- especially during the holidays when there are lots of sweets around.
These almonds are roasted and seasoned, and pack a mouthwatering twist which is why we are loving them!
I can’t help but feel good about buying them for our holidays parties and get-togethers because I know it is also supporting a wonderful cause.
Right now you can find Blue Diamond Snack Almonds at your local Walmart store.
So next time you are out shopping at Walmart, take your kids along with you, pick up some almonds and talk about how your purchase will be supporting other this time of year.
